Three secretaries testify at Senate China policy hearing.
Three Cabinet leaders recently testified before Congress together, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, and Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo appeared at a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing to give their opinions on how a reduced federal budget could impact the United States’ relationship with China.
Legislators largely agree that competition with China is an important issue currently facing Washington. The divergence in approach is between those who would maintain competition by providing more funding for those efforts, while others attempt to make the case that the continual spending and accrual of debt is an unsustainable practice.
Secretary Austin said that his department plans to provide “significant” military assistance to Taiwan in the coming months, but did not elaborate as to what that assistance could cost. Secretary Raimondo weighed in on economic ties with China, especially with regard to American companies manufacturing in China.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For senators as they consider the testimonies of the three Cabinet secretaries.
- For wisdom for members of the Senate as they deliberate appropriations and the debt ceiling.
- For Secretaries Austin, Blinken, and Raimondo to seek the Lord’s leading as they head their respective federal agencies.
